As sponsors of the No Mercy Metal Showcase Series here in NYC, I managed to make my way down to Santos Party House for the most recent July 24th showcase. The day was long and heavy, but in the end I was truly disappointed with most of the roster. Band after band of emo-cuts, laughable crab core moves, and generic metal core riffs even Attack Attack! would be embarrassed to record, I was expecting the worst. Then NYC's own Severed headlined the showcase, and I watched the place erupt in frenzy.
Severed is what I would usually refer to as "a live band" in the sense you have to see them on stage to truly get the gist of the energy behind the band. Their presence is a powerhouse backed by a sea of waving fists and screaming fans. It's always impressive to see a local act command a large crowd and keep the stamina high throughout their set. Their genre might not be for every Metal Injection Junkie, but if you're looking to release some pent up aggression, I recommend checking them out in a venue near you.
