It's been a weird weekend for Five Finger Death Punch fans. Two nights ago, November 25th, the band cut their set short at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA after Ivan Moody was in no shape to perform. In between songs, Moody says he was in a bad place because his mother was dying.
Yesterday, Moody's sister released a statement denying that their mother is in poor health and saying everybody in the family is just fine. This made us question if Moody would show up for the band's gig last night in Newark, NJ. Well, he absolutely did show up, and multiple people sent us reports from the evening. This account from Lynne tells the whole story:
As per your request from your article on Ivan Moody, they did play last night in New Jersey and it was awesome. Ivan did make a statement about the previous night when he broke down. He mentioned that the mother he was referring to was the House mother that helped and guided him through rehab and how much she meant to him. This was done before singing "Remember Everything". He did sing the first verse acapella but that was all. They did not do the entire song. While speaking he did apologize to the band, his family and his fans and said he never wants to embarrass them in anyway. He said basically, he just broke down and had a mental moment because of what was going on. He then also went into the situation that Kanye West was currently in by being treated for mental issues and asked people to understand mental illness was no joke and even though he made fun of Kanye in the past, he wished him well and said after the prior night, Ivan finally understood how things like that happen to people, even when they seem to have everything.
All in all, the band played an amazing show. The fans were all behind Ivan – cheered and shouted words of support to him during his speech and throughout the show.
Video footage has surfaced of Moody's speech where he evokes Kanye West's name, a guy he had unkind words for in the past. Here is a transcription of what Moody said:
“I was asked not to say anything about my past. I’ve never done what anybody told me to. Last night I had a mental moment. It had nothing to do with alcohol, drugs, or any of it. True. Just melted down.
The last thing I wanna do was embarrass my band, or my family, or any of you. I always make fun of Kanye West… just let me finish… I found out today he’s still in the mental institution. Don’t be rude, straight up. I never got it before. I’m starting to get it now. If it wasn’t for you beautiful motherfuckers, I don’t think I’d be on this stage.”
It's almost crazy that Moody is back on stage so quickly after his breakdown. It seems unhealthy to do so. Hopefully, whatever demons Moody has he can work them out for the good of himself, his band, his fans and his family.
